FAMILY
Casa de Nossa Senhora da Piedade

In the year of 1524 a citizen of Porto, Álvaro Vaz Ribeiro, wrote in his Family Book (A perpetual calendar):

“Jesus Mary

On the 25th April, Saturday, I married my wife Beatriz Eanes de Escapa, daughter of João de Sam Miguel and Beatriz Afonso de Escapa, in Oporto, in 1524”

With this marriage Álvaro Vaz started a family that was to have in the House of Nossa Senhora da Piedade its seat: it was the couple´s eldest son, Gaspar de São Miguel, who came to live in Ponte de Lima, as he writes in its turn on his father´s book:

“On the 8th of June 1557, I married my wife Catarina de Mogueimas, to serve Our Lord for long years, in the church of Santa Maria of Ponte de Lima”.

Today, eleven generations later, it is their descendants´ duty and privilege to preserve the family´s place and cherish its traditions and memories.
